Core Elements of Trauma Therapy:

  • Safety: We build a foundation of safety, trust, and resourcing before processing difficult material, working within your window of tolerance so you stay present and in control.
  • Psychoeducation: I explain how trauma affects the brain, nervous system, and body, so symptoms like hypervigilance, numbness, or shutdown make sense rather than feeling like personal failures.
  • Body-based regulation (somatic approaches): We use grounding, breath, orienting, and interoceptive awareness (noticing internal sensations) to help your nervous system move out of survival states.
  • Relational attunement: In cases where there is devleopmental trauma, we explore how early adaptive survival strategies shaped your sense of self and relationships, and we work with present-moment experience to build connection, trust, autonomy, and self-worth.
  • Cognitive restructuring: Drawing on evidence-based CBT trauma approaches such as Cognitive Processing Therapy, we identify and gently challenge trauma-related beliefs (“it was my fault,” “I’m not safe,” “I can’t trust anyone”) and develop more balanced, compassionate perspectives.
  • Integration of mind and body: Insight alone isn’t always enough, so we pair cognitive understanding with bodily felt shifts, so change is both understood and experienced.
  • Pacing and collaboration: Treatment is tailored to you. You set the pace, and we regularly check in on what’s working.
  • Resilience: The goal is not just symptom relief but greater flexibility, a stronger sense of self, and the capacity for connection and daily life with less fear.
